Frequently Asked Questions

Do current FC Stars players have to attend tryouts?

Yes, all players MUST register & attend each year.

Do I need to register online?

Yes. Every player must register online. In doing so, our staff can provide expected turnout and allow our coaches to prepare appropriate space and plan format. This also speeds up the check in process.

This year we've partnered with PlayMetrics to enhance our registration process. Moving forward, all FC Stars tryouts, clinics, and programs will be processed through PlayMetrics.

Visit the PlayMetrics Help Page for questions about setting up player and parent accounts under the "Registering with PlayMetrics Via Club Registration Link" section.

Does my child have to attend both tryouts?

FC Stars recommend that your child attend both sets of tryouts unless you have been contacted after the first night. This is to maximize your child’s time in front of the coaches. If for some reason you cannot make both tryouts, please make sure you notify the appropriate coaches in advance.

When will I know if my child has made a team?

Each player / parent will be contacted within 3 days of the last tryout by a member of the FC Stars coaching staff.

Can I register for multiple tryouts?

Yes, you can register for multiple tryouts. If you would like to also be considered for a Regional Team (should you not be invited onto an ECNL team) please register for tryouts twice - both the FC Stars ECNL tryout AND your local/regional tryout.

How much does it cost if my child makes a team?

Team fees are priced individually, dependent on league and tournament fees. If your is offered a roster spot, you will be sent a contract that specifies the team fee for the year and outlines what is included. The Stars team fees include all training (fall, winter and spring), practice and game fields, approved tournament registration and coaching expenses and insurance.

My child is interested in FC Stars but our family cannot afford to pay the fees, is financial assistance available?

Yes. FC Stars has a financial aid fund but the resources are limited. Financial aid is awarded strictly on financial need and not on soccer ability, following blinded evaluation and determination of need. If you are offered a roster spot you can immediately apply for aid from the club. The application appears on the website in June and is due by early July. Decisons on financial aid are typicaly communicated by the FC Stars Board of Directors in August.

How does your uniform process work and do we have buy a new one each year?

Practice and game  uniforms are ordered as a kit directly through ’We Got Soccer’. Once your child has been accepted to a team, you will be advised on the ordering process. FC Stars operates on a two-year uniform cycle . Your child can wear the same uniform for two years. Replacement or additional items can be ordered throughout the year from the ’We Got Soccer’ website.

How do I know what age my child should be playing at?

Teams are built by players birth year - please register for your birth year and region/program of choice.

How do I know what region my child should be trying out at?

Visit our Regions page to see the main training locations for our FC Stars regions. Further questions can be sent to info@starsofma.org

How do I know what competitive level my child should be trying out at?

Is there a tryout specific for Goalkeepers?

No. Any goalkeeper interested in trying out for FC Stars should attend the tryout for the specific FC Stars team they wish to play on.

Can my child "play up" on an older team?

This is only possible when the FC Stars coaches feel that it would be in the best interest of the development of a given player.
