FC Stars Goalkeeping

FC Stars implements a structured curriculum for every goalkeeper in each phase of development.  Our goalkeeping staff has a proven track record of developing complete goalkeepers through a strong foundation of skills and understanding of the game, while emboldening them to consistently test and expand their skill sets.

FC Stars Goalkeeping Academy is a fun, comprehensive and competitive environment where we take pride in guiding our players to growth and improved performance. The mission of FC Stars is to provide the optimal training and competition that will best prepare our young athletes to play at the High School, Collegiate, Regional and National representative levels.

Each FC Stars region has a dedicated goalkeeper coach to offer goalkeeper specific training at least 1x week.  Our staff track players development and provides feedback in both training sessions and games.  We are committed to supporting our players at every age group and level, all the way from the Foundation Phase to the college recruitment process.

FC Stars is proud to be the leading club in Massachusetts dedicated to training goalkeepers.

Foundation Phase (Ages 8-10):

Our primary training objectives in this phase is technique fundamentals, fun and safety.  FC Stars curriculum focuses on proper body shape, catching techniques, footwork, varied distribution, and diving.

Intermediate Phase (Ages 10-12):

Building on the skills established in the foundation phase, goalkeepers in the intermediate phase will focus on building good habits, reinforcing technique, catching high balls and breakaways. Tactically, intermediate phase goalkeepers will develop an understanding of positioning and angle play, playing out of the back, communication and dealing with set pieces.

Advanced Phase (Ages 13-15):

Goalkeepers in the advanced phase will focus on mastery of the skills and techniques developed in the foundation and intermediate phases. Advanced phase goalkeepers are introduced to varied areas of decision-making in one-on-one situations, distribution and counterattacking situations, catching/punching/parrying situations, and organization to prepare them for the unpredictable nature of soccer. Extension diving and back to the bar saves are important skills to build in this phase as goalkeepers make the transition from the smaller 9v9 goals to the full-size 11v11 goal.

Senior Phase (Ages 16-18):

As players enter their late teens, fine-tuning and skill maintenance becomes paramount.  Senior goalkeepers should be proficient in most technical skills and tactical objectives introduced in the prior phases. Mastery of past phases allows goalkeepers to place greater focus on team shape concepts and continue to develop an understanding of their role within the team.
