ECNL National Playoffs Recap: 2011 & 2008 ECNL Blue Advance to Elite 8

By Will Pipicelli, 06/29/24, 4:00PM EDT

Our 2011 & 2008 ECNL Blue Girls teams punched their ticket the Elite 8 to highlight a thrilling week at the ECNL Boys & Girls National Playoffs.

The 08's, who earlier this season clinched the ECNL Girls New England Conference Regular Season Championship, won all three of their Champions League Group Stage games before facing off MVLA in the Round of 16. A back-and-forth contest was decided in penalty kicks, where Stars went perfect from the spot to book their place in the next round.

One day later, it was the 11's turn to secure a knockout-round victory. In the team's first-ever trip to the ECNL Girls National Playoffs, their Round of 16 win over PDA Blue allowed FC Stars to become the only team in the New England Conference with multiple playoff-participants remaining.

Both teams will continue their season next month in Richmond, VA at the ECNL Girls National Finals. Beginning Wednesday, July 10, each team will play a minimum of two games, with a third game only guaranteed for the national finalists.

FC Stars sent six girls teams to Seattle for the ECNL Girls National Playoffs - our U13 & U15-U19 ECNL Blue sides along with our 07 ECNL White Girls. Kicking off in San Diego a few days later, our 2008 & 2007 ECNL Boy sides represented the club at the ECNL Boys National Playoffs.

Our three U17 teams carried over their strong regular seasons with impressive performances at the playoffs. '07 ECNL Blue finished their group undefeated and were just shy of clinching a spot in the knockout rounds. Our ECNL White Girls of the same age advanced to the semifinals of the North American Cup, the second straight year they advanced to the playoff semis. Over on the Boys side, the U17's capped off their historic season with 2 wins and a loss in one of the toughest Champions League groups.

The two prestigious playoff events captured the eyeballs of college & professional coaches from across the country. Over 1,000 coaches attended the ECNL Girls National Playoffs while more than 500 coaches were at the ECNL Boys National Playoffs
