Cara Bubonovich and Sophia Kling were each named to play in tomorrow night’s Continental Tire ECNL National Selection Game at ECNL Phoenix (Spring)

The two FC Stars players will represent Team East in the weekend’s spotlight game. A total of 36 players from across the country will take the field Friday night in an East vs. West matchup at the Reach 11 Sports Complex. Kickoff is at 9:00 p.m. EST.

Bubonovich, who plays for our ‘06 ECNL Blue National team, is appreciative of the chance to compete against her talented peers.

“I am so honored to have been chosen to play in the National Selection Game,” she said. “I am super excited for this opportunity!”

Kling, a goalkeeper for our ‘07 ECNL Blue National team, said the selection will make the weekend even more thrilling for her.

“I am super excited to have this opportunity to play in the National Selection Game,” she said. “The experience will make my trip to Phoenix even more exciting.”

FC Stars is one of 10 clubs that placed at least two players in the Selection Game, and the only club that is on the East Coast. The pair of players are currently uncommitted in relation to their college recruitment process.

Bubonovich and Kling are the fifth and sixth FC Stars players to be chosen for an ECNL Selection Game this season. Soraya Ross, Lola Follansbee, and Lydia Leblanc were each named to play in ECNL Selection Games at ECNL Florida and ECNL RL Florida in the beginning of January. Later that month, goalkeeper William Noble was chosen to play in the ECNL Selection Game at ECNL RL Florida.

According to the ECNL, players were selected for the games by the ECNL Player Identification staff through a combination of scouting and recommendations based on performances over the past several months. These athletes will not compete for their clubs on the day of their respective Selection Games in order to properly rest and prepare for the event.
