Weekend Play Sees Two FC Stars Team Advance

Two FC Stars teams advanced over the weekend at the ECNL Girls National Playoffs to put themselves in prime position to lift silverware.

The U17 ECNL White team advanced to the final of the Showcase Cup A on Saturday, dominating Challenge SC in a 4-1 win. Sunday saw the U15 ECNL Blue team complete three wins out of three in Group I of the Champions League to move on to the Round of 16.

The U17’s had advanced to the semifinals of the Showcase Cup A by defeating #1 overall seed Colorado Rapids earlier in the week. On Saturday, the U16’s more than doubled their overall tournament tally for goals scored against Challenge SC. The semifinal clash was also a rematch between the two clubs, as Challenge SC defeated Stars 2-1 last December at ECNL Tennessee.

“Our ‘so what? Now what?’ mindset has been our driving force,” said U17 ECNL White Head Coach Shawn McDonough. “The girls continue to leave it all on the field. I’m super excited that these warriors have earned the right to compete for a national championship. Monday will be fun!”

The Showcase Cup A Final is set for Monday morning at 11 a.m. EST, where Stars will battle Sting Austin for a championship.

Meanwhile, the U15 ECNL Blue team (pictured below) continued their stellar play in Washington with a 2-0 shutout of the Michigan Hawks. Stars have scored a whopping 12 goals in their three wins against only one goal conceded.

“Incredibly proud of the effort this week,” said Head Coach Graeme Blackman. “We are just focused on being better in our next game, and I am excited to see their next performance.”

The U15’s will play PDA Blue on Tuesday at 1 p.m. EST in the Round of 16 of the Champions League.

Elsewhere on Saturday, the U16 FC Stars ECNL Blue team ended their season on a high with a 1-0 win over Richmond United in a consolation game for the Showcase Cup A. Meanwhile, the U17 ECNL Blue team lost to Internationals SC 2-0 to miss out on a spot in the Champions League Round of 16.

Sunday saw the U14 FC Stars ECNL Blue team draw 1-1 with Slammers FC HB KØGE. A win would have seen Stars advance to the knockout round. However, the draw left them with five points in the group, which was not enough to move on.

In the final game of the day, the U13 FC Stars ECNL Blue team lost 4-0 to Real Colorado National. They’ll have their last game of the tournament on Monday vs the NC Courage at 1 p.m. EST.
